Motherhood portraits in Maine… and everywhere!

My work exists to preserve the milestones of pregnancy, motherhood, and the many years to follow.

It is in these chapters of your life that demand grace and intention, and I can reciprocate that with reverence, and an eye toward what will matter decades from now.

My approach to maternity and motherhood is rooted in documentary-style portraiture and emotional intelligence, with detailed editorial composition. Every session is designed to honor the woman first, then the mother, then the evolving relationship between generations.

These portraits are not about perfection, they are about presence, and preservation. They’re designed to live on walls, in albums, and in the visual memory of your family, passed down, recognized, and cherished over decades.

  • We didn’t realize how much we wanted continuity until we saw our images. Nothing felt performative. Nothing felt rushed. Rebecca approached our family as something worth studying, understanding, and preserving. She changed everything into something meaningful.

    — Margaret & Thomas L.

  • What surprised me most was how calm I felt. I didn’t feel managed or directed. The trust she establishes is quiet and immediate, and the images reflect that.

    — Elle R.

  • This wasn’t another photo session; it was an invaluable investment in how our family will be remembered. The consistency across years is what makes Rebecca's work extraordinary.

    — Claire & Jonathon W.

  • We’ve worked with other photographers. None of them held the long view the way Rebecca does.

    — Sarah H.

  • Nothing is trendy. It’s the kind of portraiture you realize grows more valuable with time.

    — Anne M.

  • I expected maternity photos... What I experienced was being seen as a woman at a threshold moment in my life. That distinction matters, and it's carried me through three pregnancies. Rebecca doesn't just see you, she understands you.

    — Natalie C.

  • These are not photos I’ll outgrow. I can already see them belonging to my daughter someday. That was important to me.

    — Emily T.

  • If you know, you know.

    — Amanda O.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Most women schedule their maternity session between 28 and 34 weeks, when their bodies have clearly transitioned but still feel supported and mobile.

That said, timing is not a rule, it’s a conversation-starter. I consider how you carry pregnancy, your energy levels, and the kind of imagery we’re creating.

  • No. Most people aren’t, and that’s okay. You show up, and I’ll do the rest.

You don’t need to know how to pose or perform. I give clear direction and keep things simple. My job is to handle the visual decisions like posing and styling, so you don’t have to think about them.

  • Yes, in a natural way.

Skin looks like skin. Bodies look like bodies. Temporary distractions can be softened, but I don’t reshape people or over-edit. The goal is polished and realistic.

  • Yes, of course!

Some sessions focus only on you, and others include partners or children.

There’s no requirement either way. We decide ahead of time so the session flows smoothly, and you feel honored.

  • I have a private studio in Portland, Maine, and I also travel.

I am frequently and leisurely at home in Downeast and coastal Maine, with extensive familiarity along western Maine and The White Mountains.

  • Earlier than you think.

Most maternity and newborn photographers book out weeks or months in advance, especially for due-date-based scheduling. Many clients book maternity and newborn sessions at the same time to ensure availability and visual consistency.

Booking early doesn’t lock you into exact dates, it holds space around your due window.

  • This is normal and expected.

Newborn sessions are scheduled based on a flexible due-date window, not a fixed calendar date. Once the baby arrives, you’ll reach out and we’ll finalize the session timing. Early or late arrivals are built into the process.
